ABOUT → THE JOURNEY | THE PALETTE | THE PRACTICE | THE WORK | THE WHY
I work in digital watercolour. I started, as most do, with traditional practice: paper, brushes, water, the particular surrender that comes when the paint decides for itself. I chose digital not as a departure from that, but as a continuation of it. The transparency is the same. The resistance is the same. The moment when water, even virtual, decides for you – that is the same.
What changes is the freedom to fail better, and more often.
I sketch first, pencil on paper, always, then build a moodboard, then paint. I observe before I touch anything. I compose internally before anything is committed to the canvas. And then I let go.
I trust the gesture, the stroke, the happy accident. I trust the process more than I control it. Mistakes are not interruptions. They are the process. Some of the most significant directions in my work have come from something unplanned: a wash that spread too far, a line that landed somewhere unexpected, a form that emerged from what I thought was an error. I follow those.
That is where the work becomes alive.
